One Piece: Trafalgar Law’s Devil Fruit Powers and Techniques, Explained

Trafalgar Law is an exceptional fighter and a great doctor. All this is thanks to his Devil Fruit, which grants him numerous versatile techniques.

One Piece has no shortage of iconic characters, and Trafalgar Law is a fan favorite. Alongside Luffy, he is a member of the Worst Generation and shares the same bounty of three billion as the future Pirate King. As a child, Law vigorously trained in martial arts under Lao G, an executive of the Donquixote Family. Law's haki is also exceptionally strong, but he still relies mostly on his Devil Fruit abilities during battle. With this power, he became a Warlord and, after Wano, came to share the same bounty as Luffy, the new Yonko.

Law consumed a paramecia-type Devil Fruit during his childhood and gains its powers. The fruit is meant for those with a medical background. As fans are already aware, under the influence of his parents, Law has had medical knowledge since a very young age, hence why this Devil Fruit is truly fitting for someone like him. He is not only the crew's captain but also its doctor thanks to his miraculous healing techniques. In the Marineford, Law managed to save Luffy and Jinbe from death's door, and his complex multiple techniques seem to be beyond the capacities of any ordinary paramecia fruit.

What Is Law's Devil Fruit and What Powers Does It Give Him?

Law has the power of the Ope Ope no Mi, a paramecia-type Devil Fruit that grants him the ability to manifest a spherical space. Ope is short for "opereshon," the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "operation." In the English adaptations, it is called Op Op Fruit. It is by far the most versatile Devil Fruit in the series, granting its user several powers, some of which are similar to other Devil Fruits. Within his manifested space, Law can manipulate every element to suit his needs, making him the "Free Modification Human."

Before Law, this fruit was consumed by several famous doctors, making it renowned around the world. The user of this Devil Fruit has the power to perform miraculous surgeries, cure untreatable diseases and even circumvent physical disabilities. In fact, Ope Ope no Mi is also known as the "Ultimate Devil Fruit" because it is the only known one in the world that grants immortality to someone else. However, the user will have to sacrifice their life to grant someone immortality, which is why Doflamingo spares no effort in finding this fruit but ends up failing.

Ope Ope no Mi Techniques Before Awakening

Law's iconic technique, Room, is the precursor of all his techniques. To use even one of his techniques, he first needs to create a space surrounding him and his targets. The size of the room depends on how far he is from the enemy. However, this technique can take a few years from his lifespan if he makes an exceptionally large room as he does in the "Dressrosa" saga. Law's other technique, Amputate, is one his most basic-looking yet efficient offensive techniques where he uses his Kikoku (the name of his sword) to cleanly cut his opponent without doing any real harm, although it does render them immobile until he decides otherwise. Amputate is also a useful technique to perform surgeries, which allows him access to patients' body parts that he normally wouldn't have.

Additionally, Radio Knife is an advanced version of Amputate, where Law charges his Kikoku with electricity before slicing up his opponents. In reality, a radio knife is a surgical instrument that uses a high-frequency electric arc to cut away or through tissue. Another popular technique is Shambles, with which Law can swap the positions of any object inside his manifested space. This versatile technique can help him dodge enemy attacks, be used for transportation purposes or directly attack his enemies. He also has an unusual technique called Personality Transplant Surgery, which he uses against the Straw Hat Pirates by effectively targeting their personalities and using Shambles to swap them with each other. The Straw Hat Pirates end up taking over each other's bodies, creating a lot of problems for them.

The best part about this technique is that Law's targets will stay that way until he reverses the technique. He also uses an ability called Takt to levitate humongous objects by simply lifting his fingers as long as the object is within his space. Law's iconic technique Injection Shot is a powerful one where he aims at his opponents with an outstretched sword in order to stab them. Once the sword connects, he makes it shoot like a gun, dealing significant damage. Additionally, his strongest technique before Awakening is Gamma Knife, where he creates a short blade of energy before stabbing his enemies with it. This technique has the power to destroy the target's internal organs without doing any damage to the outer body, and it's powerful enough to injure an opponent like Kaido in his full beast form.

Ope Ope no Mi Techniques After Awakening

Law's abilities further improve after awakening his Devil Fruit power in the "Wano Country" saga. He now uses two different variations of his signature ability, Room. The first is K-Room, where he creates a similar space above his hand that never expands by itself. Instead, Law coats objects with this space bubble and grants them similar properties to that of his usual ability. The second variation is R-Room, where he creates a spherical space and then tosses it onto a target. Once it makes contact, he applies a specific effect to it that harms the target from the inside.

Law can also use the technique Anesthesia by coating his Kikoku with K-Room and allowing it to pierce through anything without harming his opponent. Another technique, Shock Wille, which literally means "Impact" or "Shock Surge," is similar to Gamma Knife in effect. Law uses this technique by piercing his opponents with his Kikoku and then releasing an electrical shock wave through it that completely destroys them from the inside.

Additionally, Puncture Wille is Law's most devastating technique, where he positions himself on top of his opponent and pierces them with his Kikoku. Once his sword reaches a certain depth, he releases a strong shockwave, causing massive damage to the opponent and the objects surrounding them. Finally, Law is now able to use a technique called Silent, the same as Corazon. He can make his R-Room soundproof and prevent any sound produced within the designated area.
